Take a moment to look up!

Updated: Jan 27

As I glanced out of the window one early morning, something in my head told me to take a moment to look up.

I was immediately taken aback by the sight of a stunning crescent moon right above Bedford College. This unexpected beauty brought joy to my heart and a smile, prompting me to ponder what other wonders I might have overlooked by being in a rush to get somewhere or worse, walking with my eyes focused on the pavement.

Bedford boasts remarkable architecture that often goes unnoticed as we concentrate on the path ahead, maneuver through traffic, or get absorbed in our daily tasks.

During your next visit to Bedford, as you stroll along the High Street, remember to glance upwards to admire the golden bull clock and the two gun dogs on each side of the building now housing Italian Touch By Ivano, an excellent restaurant featuring traditional pizza and pasta dishes.

Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of St Paul's Church spire.

Don't forget to look up and explore the impressive clock tower on the Harpur Centre which previously housed Bedford Modern School. This tower, designed and constructed by Edward Blore between 1831 and 1834, features stylised turrets as a tribute to Bedford Castle, which faced a siege in 1224.

Further down the High Street, you will come across the Salvation Army charity shop. Above it, the Drapers building has undergone a stunning renovation, featuring rounded glass that provides the new office space for Simply Creative agency with a panoramic view of the High Street and abundant natural light.
